He'll be touring again in 2019.
After an extended hiatus from life as a solo artist, Dan Mangan found himself rejuvenated in 2018, and in the shape of More Or Less released his first solo record in some seven years. Now back in the routine, he's also found himself inspired to get back out on the road, and has announced a show at The Grand Social for the 5th of April 2019.
After having released four other albums of his own, and having toured them relentlessly, it was having a child that made the Canadian singer-songwriter take a break initially.
“I’d been touring non-stop for six consecutive years and the phone just kept ringing, but I felt my mind and body start to fail," he explained. "When we learned that we were going to have a baby, I told my manager that I wanted to take a year away from touring. I felt I’d earned it. That ‘one year’ away from the grind sort of slowly became six.”
The time away and new experiences allowed Mangan to regroup and rediscover who he was as an artist, culminating in the organic creation of More Or Less.
It’s been many years. A lot of soul searching. Down some, but I rallied. Thank you thank you thank you. This is the best musical thing I’ve ever been apart of. #MoreOrLess is alive // https://t.co/vTgIs3nhjj pic.twitter.com/s2lqYCcMdX

“I wrote about warmth," Mangan said of the process of making the album. "I wrote about the feeling of building something when I was young, and the fear of losing it as an adult. I wrote about feeling overwhelmed. I wrote about being in love with someone with whom I spend a lot of time figuring out who is more deserving of a nap. I wrote about the power of what goes unsaid. More or less, I wrote about myself."
Having worked with “some incredible people who have made many of my favourite albums” including the likes of Grammy Award winning producer Drew Brown (Radiohead, Beck, Blonde Redhead, Charlotte Gainsbourg), Dan Mangan has described More Or Less as his best work to date, and he'll be performing it at his Grand Social gig in April. Tickets are priced at €13.00 inclusive of booking fee, and go on sale this Friday at 10am.
