Ahead of the release of his eagerly anticipated EP, Beautiful Torture, on October 1, Daniel Whelan has offered another promising taste of what to expect from the project, with 'Her Breton Skin'.
"'Her Breton Skin' was written in Dublin five years ago during a period of absolute uncertainty," he comments. "The kind that one person or the other must go through early in their adult life.”
Originally hailing from rural Carlow, much of Daniel's music reflects his attempts to connect freely with emotion, human nature and love, following a stiff Catholic upbringing. With 'Her Breton Skin', he found “some quiet and unknowing" part of himself "coming to an end.”
“It is an old song, and for me it acts as a point of measurement against which the truth has changed, all the while guarding the moment it depicts," he adds.
As well as Daniel's captivating vocals and fingerstyle guitar, the new single features Matthew Jacobson on drums, Conor Cunningham on bass. Like the rest of Beautiful Torture, 'Her Breton Skin' was produced by Cian Hamilton.

The track arrives alongside a beautiful new music video, shot in Sligo during the spring of 2021 – which draws inspiration from the 'selkies' of Celtic mythology.
