US singer-songwriter Danny Elfman announced the release of his new album Big Mess after releasing a series of singles over the past year. It will mark over 30 years since his last solo album.

Known mostly for his outstanding soundtrack works, Elfman decided to spend his time in isolation on creating something for his own.

"When I started this project, it’d been so long since I’d done anything personal that I honestly didn’t know what Danny Elfman sounded like anymore," he remarked.

"Writing these songs was a journey in figuring that out, as much as anything else."

Big Mess is a name that speaks for itself while the musician openly critiques the current politics in the most artistic way. Yet it can also be interpreted as a deeply personal work.

"It was always destined to be this crazy cacophony, because that’s who I am. The Big Mess is me."

The surreal music video of the album title track ‘True’ was produced by multimedia artist Sarah Sitkin. It features Danny Elfman in all different forms and shapes other than his human self.

"I wanted to make a video that was gritty, unpolished, and uncomfortable," says Sitkin.

The odd work, however, greatly reflects the philosophical theory of forms that proclaims everything existing in our world to be nothing but a replica of its real form. And knowing Elfman, it is only one of the many ideas hidden behind it.

The 18-track album will include previous tracks ‘Happy’, ‘Love In The Time Of Covid’ and ‘Kick Me’.

For the production of Big Mess, Danny Elfman collaborated with drummer Josh Freese and guitarists Stu Brooks and Nili Brosh.
