David Bowie’s Estate has released the right for the track ‘Heroes’ to be re-recorded and sold to raise money for a variety of children’s charities as part of the “Woodie’s Heroes” campaign.
A one-hundred-strong choir, led by MayKay (of Fight Like Apes fame), have recorded a new version the iconic David Bowie track, ‘Heroes’. The recording is being sold on-site at Woodie’s stores and online at the official Bandcamp page. All proceeds will go to charity.
This is the third year that Woodie’s have organised a major campaign to fundraise for children’s charities. They have raised almost half a million euros in the last two years. This year they have set themselves a target to raise €190,000 for four of Ireland’s largest children’s charities; Make-A-Wish, ACT for Meningitis, Temple Street, and Jack & Jill Foundation.
Each of the four charity partners have chosen their own heroes to represent the campaign.
Seven-year-old Nicola is living with a brain tumour, but thanks to Make-A-Wish she had a magical experience meeting her favourite Disney princesses in Disneyland with her family.
Jacob, a regular patient in Temple Street’s Metabolic Unit, is 4 years old and has to follow a strict protein-restricted diet because he was born with a rare genetic disorder. He is able to live a healthy life because of the work of the Temple Street Foundation.
Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation helps children like wheelchair-bound Éabha, by providing a nurse to give the specialised care she needs.
11-year-old Alanna survived meningitis at 9 months old, but the illness has affected her coordination, muscle tone, emotional and social development. Thanks to ACT for Meningitis, Alanna has received a series of therapeutic workshops and family support days.
All of the funds raised by this campaign will go to helping these kids as well as many other children in need across Ireland.
