The well known broadcaster and media executive David Harvey heads a list of new appointments to the board of the Irish Museum of Modern Art.
David Harvey has been named as the new Chair of the Irish Museum of Modern Art. The appointment was announced today by the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys TD (pictured).
A broadcaster of considerable skill and renown, David Harvey has been involved with a number of Irish radio stations, presenting a long-running show with 4FM, where he appeared from 1pm to 3pm daily, as well as featuring at different times on Radio Nova and Century Radio, and as a guest presenter on Today FM. He became best known as one of the presenters of Crimeline, when the programme first aired on RTÉ television.
He was the founder of City Channel, which operated a number of local TV licences around Ireland. He has also served on a number of boards, including chairing the governing body of Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art and Design and the St. Patrick’s Day Festival. He was a founder of Star Broadcasting, which owns Sunshine Radio. Most recently, he was Chairman of the National Library of Ireland.
According to a statement from the Minister, issued today, Heather Humphries will also be appointing the following people as ordinary members of the Board immediately: Mr Dermod Dwyer; Ms Penelope Kenny; Ms Mary Apied.
Additional appointments will be made as vacancies arise in January and, again, in early February 2016. The new directors-in-waiting are: Mr Tim Scanlon; Mr Denis Hickie; Mr Declan Moylan; Ms Mary McCarthy; and (appointment 3 February) Mr Gerard Byrne.
"The appointees applied for the positions through www.stateboards.ie and were recommended through the Public Appointments Service as having the requisite skills requirement for the Board of the Irish Museum of Modern Art,” the statement noted. The appointments are for a term of 5 years.
