Listen to 'His Name Was Gar Kane' below.
Following the tragic death of Gar Kane last year, David Keenan has shared a stunning tribute to his close friend and bandmate in the form of a new song, 'His Name Was Gar Kane'. All proceeds from the track – available on Bandcamp – are going directly to Gar's wife Caroline and their three sons.
"Those of you who are aware of my journey over the years will know of Gar's role in the band, his warrior voice and intricate bass playing, his presence throughout my live life and on my first album," David wrote in a statement shared on social media. "Gar was such a beautiful, intelligent, inspiring man. His death has left a void, nowhere is this felt as much as in his young family."
"As the restrictions ease, let us not forget those we've lost over the last 12 months through suicide nor those who still struggle today with mental wellness."
Last night, David shared a moving performance of the track on RTÉ Two's TradFest.

Last month, David released his latest single, 'Peter O'Toole's Drinking Stories' – taken from his highly anticipated sophomore album, "WHAT THEN?", out on October 1. Over lockdown, he released his three volumes of Isolation Tapes, and a live album Alchemy & Prose, alongside a concert film based on his unforgettable headliner at the Olympia Theatre, Dublin.
