The Battle of the Bands is one of ten large scale events hosted by DCUSU for freshers week
The DCUSU Battle of the Bands is set to take place this evening, with Azure, Precinct, New Teeth and Fused going head to head.
Taking place in The Venue on the university's Glasnevin campus, and held in association with the Alternative & Indie Music Society and the Style Society, there will be prizes given to the best performance, as well as the best dressed.
Hosted by DCUSU Presdient Karl Ormsby and local drag queen Bairbre Spice, there will also be a foreword from Daire Keogh, the the President of the University.
“I think freshers is just as integral for artists as it is for students in terms of finding ways to engage with others and taking any opportunities that come their way," says Ormsby. "A college campus is the perfect place to thrive and find new and interesting things to experience and given the platform of President of the Students’ Union I’m trying to link artists and students together so they all have great craic, make friends, and make memories.

"The Battle of the Bands is one of my most ambitious Projects yet, with four indie bands taking to the Stage in DCU to showcase their best work and give students an idea of what it’s like to experience nightlife while still within the walls of the college, providing a safe and cheap alternative to going straight into the deep end into city centre nightlife, which I think is integral to a good freshers event."
Tickets for the gig started out at €5, but due to the "roaring success of prior nights", the event will be free of charge - as a thank you to students for attending prior events.
