Banjamin Gibbard, best known as the front man for Washington state alternative band Death Cab for Cutie, has announced the release of a full reimagining of Teenage Fanclub's 1991 album Bandwagonesque.
"Bandwagonesque is my favourite record by my favourite band of all time," says Gibbard. "It came along at a pivotal time in my musical life and I've loved it for over 25 years.”
Gibbard has released his version of the album's opening track, 'The Concept'. The Death Cab singer's take on the song is stripped back and slower, extended from six minutes to eight. The crisp guitar riff from the original track is swapped for a softer, reverberating sound.
Norman Blake, founding member of the Scottish group thanked Gibbard for choosing their album to cover.
“I was thrilled and extremely flattered when I heard that Ben Gibbard had decided to cover Bandwagonesque in its entirety," he said. "Needless to say that the reimagining of the album by this very talented fella is both inventive and deftly executed."

Gibbard agreed to recreate Bandwagonesque when he was approached by Turntable Kitchen, a Seattle-based website which gives a bizarre mix of album reviews and recipes. The site's "Sounds Delicious" project delivers full-length, vinyl cover albums to subscriber's doors each month.
The album will be released digitally to everyone, and on vinyl exclusively to subscribers on July 28.
