"That’s us there at number 4!" DeBarra's posted on social media, in response to the news. "With the legendary Ryman Theatre in Nashville at number 1 ! Unbelievable!"
Iconic Clonakilty venue DeBarra's Folk Club has been listed among the 'Best Musical Venues' in the world, as part of the newly published 2025 edition of Lonely Planet's Best In Travel.
As well as naming 30 must-visit travel destinations for 2025, the publication also unveils the 'top ten travel trends' for the year ahead – including a list of ten 'iconic venues around the world', with DeBarra's coming in at No.4.
"Known as the 'Carnegie Hall of Cork' – with walls splattered with photos and press cuttings, dramatic masks and musical instruments – this Clonakilty stalwart is one of Ireland's top spots to listen to traditional Irish folk music, with a perfectly poured pint in your hand," Lonely Planet say of DeBarra's.
Other venues in the Top 5 include The Ryman in Nashville (No.1); the Hayden Homes Amphitheatre in Bend, Oregon (No.2); the Rudolfinum in Prague (No.3); and Dalhalla Amphitheatre in Rattvik, Sweden (No.5).
DeBarra's has built up a reputation for bringing celebrated artists to West Cork – forging connections with the likes of the Jimi Hendrix Experience’s Noel Redding, Paddy Keenan, Roy Harper and Christy Moore over the course of its remarkable history.
Lisa O'Neill is set to grace its stage tonight, October 24, with a sold-out show – while the likes of The Scratch, John Spillane, Post Punk Podge & The Technohippies and RÓIS are scheduled to play there before the year is out.
