The pop star is awake and alert after being rushed to hospital following a reported drug overdose last night, according to the latest wave of stories emerging Stateside this Wednesday morning.
It was originally reported by TMZ that the singer had overdose on heroin, but the popular website has since backtracked on this report. TMZ said last night that law enforcement sources had told them she had taken the Class A drug. But this morning they quoted a source connected to the singer who says that "Demi Lovato did not OD on heroin".
Audio of the emergency call obtained by TMZ revealed that Demi Lovato was unconscious upon the arrival of emergency services and had to be revived with a drug called Narcan, which is a medication used to reverse the effects of a narcotic overdose.
Lovato, who had previously struggled with cocaine and Oxycontin addictions, had been clean for six years but recently fell off the wagon.
A spokesperson for her family said this morning: “Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support. Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy.”

In 2010, the singer was treated for bipolar disorder, bulimia, self-harm and addiction. After relapsing, she then entered a sober living facility for a year and managed to remain sober for the past six years.... until her recent relapse.
In fact, Demi even opened up about sobriety when she released a single entitled Sober only back in June.
“The ultimate breaking point would have been when Demi was on tour, and she lashed out at one of her dancers, physically,” her mother De La Garza once told People magazine. “That was the defining moment where we all said, as a family: She needs help. She needs serious help. And it doesn’t matter what happens to her career — we need to focus on getting her the help she needs.”
There's been an outpour of support for the singer. on social media this morning. Taking to Twitter this morning, Lili Reinhart wrote: "praying for @ddlovato and her health. When I was 14, she was an idol to me in how she spoke so openly about mental health. And now she continues to inspire thousands of young men and women with her body positivity messages. Addiction and mental illness doesn’t discriminate."
While Ellen DeGeneres wrote: "I love @DDLovato so much. It breaks my heart that she is going through this. She is a light in this world, and I am sending my love to her and her family."
Ariana Grande poignantly kept it short and sweet with a simple "I love you" Demi. And Lilly Allen said: "Poor beautiful spirit @ddlovato I hope she’s ok, and that she makes a full recovery soon."
