Depeche Mode held a press conference today in Milan to announce that they will be embarking on their new Global Spirit tour across the world, with a series of shows in Europe. The tour will follow the release of their new studio album, Spirit in early 2017. Depeche Mode will kick off their tour in Stockholm's Friends Arena on May 5, and will go through Paris, Milan, Berlin, and London. The last stop on the European circuit will be a stadium show in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, before the band heads on to shows in North and South America.
The band also announced that their new album, Spirit will be released in early 2017. Dave Gahan stated, “We're exceptionally proud of Spirit's sound and energy, and we're excited to get back on tour to share it with our fans around the world."Samples of the new album were also shared at the press conference, which was streamed through Facebook. Spirit will be the band's 14th studio album, and their first since 2013's Delta Machine The album will be produced by James Ford, who has worked with bands such as Florence and the Machine and Arctic Monkeys.
The band promoted the announcement across social media and on their own website, with a clock that counted down to the seconds before the conference. Tickets for the shows will go on sale this week. Dates for the European shows can be found below.
