There are fewer greater examples of the avenues streaming can open up for a budding artist than the Dubliner.
The past couple of years have been phenomenal for Dermot Kennedy, and 2019 looks like it will continue in that vein as he has today confirmed two dates at the Olympia for May.
Always brimming with talent but not always the matching recognition, the singer-songwriter returned home one night in 2016 after having earlier performed to a crowd of less than 100 people only to discover that one of his songs had been picked up by an algorithm on Spotify and was subsequently streamed over 50,000 times that day alone.
The streaming platform continued to play a prominent role in Kennedy's rapid ascension. After they continued to push more of his anthemic, emotive music and he was included on a playlist pieced together by Taylor Swift no less, he's gone on to amass well in excess of 300 million listens in total. All of this without having released an album yet.
He's since built on this by forging a fan base for himself outside of merely his online listenership, selling out venues internationally in the process. On Irish shores he's recently performed at Electric Picnic, and is currently in the midst of a 42-date headline world tour that sees him perform at a sold out Vicar Street over the next two nights before setting off to North America.
The two Olympia shows have been penciled in for the 13th and 14th of May, and alongside dates in Belgium, Germany, Holland and France are new additions to a previously announced run of gigs in the UK that will precede them.

He also recently performed for a pair of always unmissable series in NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert and Colors, while his most recently released single ‘Power Over Me’ debuted as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record In The World.
Dermot Kennedy plays The Olympia Theatre 13th and 14th May 2019. Tickets go on sale this Friday. Check out the official audio for 'Power Over Me' below:
