Dermot Kennedy follows up breakthrough single 'Power Over Me' with new visual ahead of sold out tour.
Rising star Dermot Kennedy has released a new single ahead of his sold out Ireland & UK tour. With a debut performance at Coachella, a spot on the BBC “Sound of 2019” shortlist, and the “Best New Artist” award from NPR Slingshot, ‘Lost’ adds to what has already been a big year for the Irish singer.
The single begins as a stripped back ballad, with Kennedy’s vocals hanging in the air above some sub bass kicks. Glossy pianos, distorted and synthesized vocals, and boom-bap influenced percussion all join in slowly, layering higher and higher as the song’s dramatic tension builds. Kennedy says he wrote the song “about resilience and reliance” adding that “bad things can happen and when they do, when you’re tested; you’re going to need the love and the shelter of certain people to hold you up and guide you.” It debuts alongside a new visual, featuring various vignettes depicting the troubled lives of average people, which Dermot says adds to theme of “holding each other up during bad times.”
This single follows the release of Kennedy’s most successful track yet, ‘Power Over Me’ which he recently performed live on Colbert, his U.S. television debut. He would go on to perform on Ellen later in the year.
