Hot Press announces an exciting new competition for all Irish music lovers and budding graphic designers…

We're looking for someone to design the cover artwork for the next Pierce Turner single 'The Ballad Of Rory Gallagher'.

Featuring actual samples of Rory Gallagher's trademark guitar mastery, this is a heartfelt tribute from maverick Irish songwriter Pierce Turner.

The winning design will be used as the actual artwork for the single and will be chosen by a panel of judges that includes Steve Averill (Four 5 One Design) who's designed cover artwork for U2, Depeche Mode and Elvis Costello among others.

'The Ballad Of Rory Gallagher' will be released this summer to coincide with the tenth anniversary of Gallagher's death.

This is your chance to pay homage to a true Irish legend.

SOME BACKGROUND ON THE SONG

Here's what Pierce Turner has said about 'The Ballad of Rory Gallagher':

"This was written for a Rory tribute show recorded at the Bottom Line in Manhattan. It was shown on Irish T.V. during the summer. During this song Donal, (Rory's brother), did a very moving narration over footage which spanned Rory's life from his teens all the way through to his funeral.

"Donal loved the song so much that he encouraged me to record it with permission to use any samples of Rory that I wished to use (a first). This year will be Rory's 10th anniversary. There will be a compilation CD release and a major event in Cork. Donal plans to use this track as often as possible as part of the anniversary year."
