Devil On Your Back
Named after a British World War One heavy bomber aircraft, Vickers Vimy are a folk five-piece from Galway who, together, play an estimated 9,200 instruments. The band’s self-professed love of Wilco is instantly palpable (a soft spot for Duke Ellington, less so), particularly on ‘Devil On Your Back’, a woozing, drifting piece of gentle songcraft that sounds all the brighter for some tenderly-picked banjo and gospel-tinged organ.
