Joe Duffy is forced to go it alone this afternoon
Problems with the phone lines at RTÉ studios this afternoon meant that Joe Duffy was unable to take calls.
In what must have been a crushing blow for callers, chronic complainers and - if Apres Match are to be believed - the entire area of Clontarf, nobody was able to talk to Joe today.
The problems became apparent at the very top of the Liveline broadcast, and though Philip Boucher-Hayes was on hand to buy some time, Joe was forced to take the unusual step of deploying a tune - choosing The Corrs.
At 2.30, he decided it was a lost cause, and terminated the show 30 minutes early in order to allow a full reboot of the phone studio, promising that things would be back to normal tomorrow "come hell or high water".
These tech issues can be a right handful; if your loved ones work behind the scenes in RTÉ, don't wait up this evening...
