Dott - Swoon
Dott's debut is suitably swoon-some
Calling to mind Best Coast and Dum Dum Girls, Swoon, the debut from Galway group Dott, is aptly named: it’s nigh impossible not to fall for its charms. Unashamedly love-lorn and laden with sugared melodies, the 12-track effort will warm your cockles during these cold, cold months and their brand of bubblegum rock rarely loses its flavour over the course of 40 or so minutes.
In some ways Swoon can be split into two halves. The first (including ‘Rain Day’, which has a fiendishly infectious chorus) are full of glad-eyed garage pop goodness, while the second-half sees Dott delve into slightly darker territory. ‘Love You Forever’ swaggers with punk suss; and ‘Cherry Blossom’ is a bit of a brooder thanks to Anna McCarthy’s hypnotic vocals. The variety peppers the pot nicely and adds spice to the sweetness. Expect many to swoon over Dott during the months ahead.
Key Track: 'Rain Day'
