Yesterday were the Billboard Music Awards, and it was Canadian rapper Drake who went home with a record number thirteen awards, narrowly beating Adele by one to win the most in a single night. Adele had picked up twelve at the 2012 ceremonies, but Drake managed to pick up one more, winning titles including Best Artist, Best Male Artist, and Best Rap Artist. Accepting the record-breaking award from Michael Jackson's son Prince Michael Jackson, Drake said, "I just want to say hold tight Adele because when a new ting drops you will crawl your way back to get the record back."
Beyoncé was, unsurprisingly, another big winner of the night, winning Best Female Artist, and Lemonade winning Best R&B Album. She wasn't there to accept the award due to her pregnancy. Another winner who didn't show was former One Directioner Zayn Malik, who says he was busy in the studio recording new songs.
The prestigious Icon award was bestowed onto Cher, who looked back on her career proudly, saying, "I wanted to do what I do since I was four years old and I’ve been doing it for 53 years!"
There was also a moment of silence for Chris Cornell, and Imagine Dragons' Dan Reynolds expressed his admiration for the fallen Soundgarden frontman, calling him a "prolific songwriter, a legendary performer, a singer who had a voice for the ages, and a philanthropist."
