Fangclub announces two shows at Whelan's on Sunday, October 29th, in support of their new self-titled debut album set to release August 4th.
Fangclub has just announced that it will be playing two shows in one day at Whelan's in celebration of the release of their debut self-titled album. The band will play a matinee show at 3pm where over 14s will be welcome and then will play again at 8pm, for over 18s only, to rock into the evening and tear up whatever is left of the stage after their first show.
Fangclub started off as three teenagers from the coastal town of Rush with a rock ‘n’ roll dream, but with blood, sweat, and calluses, that dream has become a reality. After dropping out of college to dedicate their time to music, Fangclub was signed to Vertigo Records. They have already released two EPs, Bullethead and Coma Happy, and taken their guitar-driven, power-trio sound on tour with bands like Twin Atlantic. Their new self-titled album is their first LP and marks a new chapter in this Irish band’s career.
The songs on the new LP are riff-driven rock anthems with songs like ‘Dreamcatcher’ and ‘Bullet Head’ that reminds the ear of some of the great tracks of Weezer in their prime and some of the hits of Queens of the Stone Age. The similarities are so striking that the band is sometimes accused of having an “American-sound”, but make no mistake, this is a band that has been raised in the Dublin scene and have nothing but love for their fans and their fair city.
Even though the band says they are just trying to focus on the music and not think about writing with the radio in mind, all of the songs are radio-friendly and accessible. Still, as anyone who has caught this band on the circuit can tell you, this is a band with a sound that is meant to be heard live where the rock can roar.
Tickets will go on sale this Friday at 10am from Ticketmaster and WAV.
