The London-based AWAL signee recently returned with the shimmering 'What Do I Know?', followed today by 'Wasted Youth'.
Clondalkin indie sensation Sarah Crean has unveiled the desert road trip-inspired visuals for her latest single, 'Wasted Youth'.
Tracing the ups and downs of childhood and adolescence, the Dubliner finished the track in the iconic Michael's Craft Store studio with producer Gabe Goodman, and Nate Lich on drums.
"I think you’re being way too kind to be cold / Chip on your shoulder and you’re twelve years old / When you were crying in your Dad’s car / Spinning / While he drove you home," Sarah sings, on the single, described as "an ode to her younger self". With a down-tempo but steady drum beat supporting her clear vocals and diaristic lyricism, indie guitar riffs inject a note of energy and introspection into the wistful but melancholic single. The video shows Crean walking down a California highway, revisiting childhood holidays in a minivan with her family.
The song was written by Crean alongside her friend and collaborator, Adam O'Leary, in a "cute but quaint" house in the Irish countryside. Reminiscing about her childhood with her friend, Vicky, an unexpected thought stuck with Sarah.
"We both had visceral memories of being bullied (slay), but vicky had in a way forgiven them with the reasoning of 'they were just kids themselves'. i hadn't thought about it from that perspective before and it shifted something in me," Crean described on her Instagram. "this song isn't about forgiveness, as you might think, but the process of contemplating forgiveness amidst an array of trauma and very shit times that can be quite painful to revisit. basically - this song is me trying to heal my inner child xx."

Crean self-released her debut album Call For Refinement back in 2021, followed by 2022 singles 'You Have No Idea', 'Show Me Nuance' and breakout TikTok hit '2:00AM'.
