DUG’s second single comes paired with the news that the folk duo will support Iron and Wine at their upcoming Whelan’s headline.
After the successful release of their first single ‘Jubilee’, two sold-out Whelan’s Upstairs shows with a subsequent main room headline in July, and signing with the widely-respected booking agency Wasserman, Irish folk duo DUG have been riding a high since their inception last October.
Continuing their winning streak, the Dublin-based two-piece have announced the release of their second single, ‘Big Sundown’, out on May 3 via A For Effort Records. The announcement comes paired with news of an excited Whelan’s performance on October 21st in support of American singer-songwriter Iron and Wine.
Produced by Belfast singer-songwriter Joshua Burnside, ‘Big Sundown’ sees DUG enlist the talents of Ye Vagabonds’ Diarmuid Mac Gloinn on backing vocals, Ben Strong on fiddle, Michael McCarthy on drums and Aiden Gray on electric bass, with sound engineering from Gareth Quinn Redmond.
The new single perfectly blends the musical heritages of band members Lorkin O’Reilly and Jonny Pickett, drawing inspiration from the journey of O’Reilly’s parents as they immigrated from Ireland to Australia in the 1980s while remaining true to the duo’s iconic Americana-Irish folk sound.
