The Irish band, fronted by lead singer Doug Sheridan, release the first song written for their debut album, The Onlooker's Redemption. Check out the track and accompanying lyric video below!
Irish band Pigeon Millers share the first song written for their debut album The Onlooker's Redemption in the form of a new single and accompanying lyric video, ‘The Only One.’
Doug Sheridan’s vocals are a soaring gift for the eardrums, carrying both a warm gruff and a light lyric tenor. Fireside acoustic guitar and a steady, soft drumbeat mould the clay of the track, while Sheridan sings, “You were the only, only man, putting out fires the best way that you can,” chronicling the long-lasting effects that short-lived friendships can have on us.
The Pigeon Millers frontman, who has been sharing his angelic voice in and out of Dublin since the early 2000s, describes the song as, “an ode to people who drift in and out of our lives.”
Sheridan shares, “I was thinking of someone who helped me through a very tough time. They didn't offer advice or try to fix my problems. They were just there anytime I wanted to drown my sorrows in the pub. And that was important in itself. It wasn't a friendship built to last a lifetime but it was just what I needed at that time and I'm so grateful to that person. They'll probably never know that.”

‘The Only One’ is the first song written for Pigeon Millers’ debut album, released initially in 2021. The Onlooker’s Redemption is about a person who has become a darker version of themselves, and their journey to get back to being someone they recognise. The album garnered national radio attention, namely with ‘Windowsill,’ played on RTÉ Radio 1 and featured on Hot Press’ ‘New Irish Songs’ upon its release in May.
Sheridan is joined by Paddy Lyons (guitar), Ed Kelly (drums) & Steve Walker (bass), each songwriters & multi-instrumentalists who bring their own unique flair to the music of Pigeon Millers. Together, the band describes their formation as a “magical accident.”
“Between us we’ve played every type of gig from the sublime to the ridiculous. We’ve played shitty covers gigs and we’ve had failed bands,” says Sheridan. “We play music born out of a genuine need to express something, not just ambition, as is the case with so much in life now.”
