Michael Jackson’s Thriller is no longer the best-selling album of all time in the US, it has just been announced by the Recording Industry Association of America.
Thriller is still the highest selling album worldwide with a staggering 47million units being sold. But in the USA new data shows that the Eagles' Greatest Hits album (1971-1975), which was originally released back in 1976, has now overtaken Thriller. The Eagles sold a staggering 38million copies Stateside, while the late icon's seminal classic album is now at 33million sales.
"We are grateful for our families, our management, our crew, the people at radio and, most of all, the loyal fans who have stuck with us through the ups and downs of 46 years. It’s been quite a ride", says Don Henley of the Eagles.
The Eagles album overtook Michael Jackson because the new ranking includes sales of both their CDs/vinyl and streaming, which had not been calculated for the band since 2006.
