We admit when we saw the previews for San Andreas we were certain it was the work of Roland Emmerich, the orchestrator of such high profile disaster films as Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow and 2012. Nothing against Mr. Emmerich, but we were pleasantly surprised to see another voice in the cinematic natural disaster genre, with Brad Peyton at the helm.

Starring Dwayne Johnson, Carla Gugino and Paul Giamatti, San Andreas details the havoc wrought by a series of horrific earthquakes tied to the San Andreas Fault in California which, Giamatti details in the trailer, will be felt on the opposite coast of the United States.

Boasting some incredible effects and breathtaking scenes of destruction, the film looks entertaining, albeit frightening, on a massive scale. Look for it on May 29!
