Everlast, ex head jumper-type with House of Pain, has taken his lo-fi funk-rock fusion to disc number two, the admittedly difficult second album entitled ‘Eat at Whitey’s’.

Although no match whatsoever for its 1998 predecessor ‘Whitey Ford Sings the Blues’ and the brilliant Grammy nominated single ‘What It’s Like’, Eat At Whitey’s is not bad.

The current single, ‘Put Your Lights On’ is a smooth, soulful number with plenty of melodic charm, courtesy of Carlos Santana’s winding guitar solos – a much needed dose of diversity. ‘Babylon Feeling’ is another highlight, with yet another Santana cameo.

But unfortunately for Everlast, world famous guitarists, string orchestration and the odd bell tree just aren’t enough.

Overall, the melodic hooks, deep lyrics and rhythmic versatility that won him so much acclaim for his debut appear to have taken a break for this venture; leaving poor old Whitey Ford with a repetitive and frankly, rather disappointing follow up.

Shame really.
