To say that the tickets were like gold-dust is to understate it by about 1000%. But Ed Sheeran's show at the renowned Dublin venue turned out to be as good as expected - and then some...
Chalk it down, folks, as one of the great ones: Whelan's might just have seen the most special night of its long and decorated history.
The countdown to Ed Sheeran's VH1 Storytellers gig was too much for some; ticket-holders (some of whom are pictured above) were filing towards the door before the dress rehearsal had even finished inside. The doors for the main event swung open shortly after 10pm. From there, it was nothing but joy.
The flame-haired chart-topper switched adeptly from spinning yarns to unleashing energetic performances of his greatest hits: 'Thinking Out Loud', 'Don't' and 'The A-Team' all got a lung-busting rendition for a crowd assembled from far and wide, eager to catch a glimpse of their hero.
Even after the live TV broadcast - seen by people all over the world - finished, Sheeran continued to delight the audience. 'Lego House' was given a run-out, as well as an incredible version of 'You Need Me, I Don't Need You', which threw nods to Iggy Azealia, Dr Dre and Damian Marley.
If it sounds extraordinary, well, it that's just the way that it was. Saturday in Whelan's was an extraordinary sort of night.
