Eddie Murphy has just received this year's Mark Twain Prize for American humour.
Each year, an award is given to a prominent individual, who has had a significant impact on American society. The prize was established in recognition to the monumental influence that Mark Twain has had on the American citizenry.
Previous recipients of the award have been Jonathan Winters, Lily Tomlin, Will Ferrel and Ellen Degeneres.
"I am deeply honoured to receive this recognition from the Kennedy Center and to join the distinguished list of past recipients of this award," Murphy said according to a statement from the Kennedy Center.
Prior to the ceremony, Murphy also posted to his Facebook page with a photo of the iconic Mark Twain and a quote, "It's easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled."
Murphy just completed filming the film Henry Joseph Church, and is currently working on Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said?
