75,000 festival-goers are expected for this year's Electric Picnic – which is taking place a few weeks earlier than its usual September slot. Festival Director Melvin Benn previously stated that the move was made to accommodate the schedules of artists on the bill.
"Electric Picnic is the slightly earlier jewel in the crown of the festival calendar this year of course and what a crown it is," he commented this morning. "A crown that 75,000 people get to wear and be part of and what a lineup they have to be part of. The Wolfe Tones returning was a must. The Scratch and The Waterboys are unmissable for me. Noah taking the world by storm and Calvin blowing our minds and then…. Kylie! What more can I say. The Picnic really is my joyous weekend."
Back in February, it was announced that, at the upcoming 2024 edition, Electric Picnic's main stage will be connected to the grid, and powered by renewable energy. This will mark the first time a festival of its kind in Ireland or the UK has installed mains power to reduce its carbon footprint.
Although Electric Picnic 2024 sold out in less than an hour last year, a small number of additional tickets became available due to "failed credit card payments", and were released this morning.
