Electric Picnic Live Review: Le Galaxie
Ain’t no party like a Laserdisco party…
Kicking back in the HP Chatroom and running the rule over everything from Kanye West to James Franco to the best worst Nicholas Cage performance, neon knights Le Galaxie promised those in attendance that their imminent Laserdisco Nights DJ spectacular wasn’t going to emulate a Guetta ‘push button and bop along’ job.
They weren’t kidding. From regular live drums courtesy of frontman Michael Pope to guest vocals from a spirited MayKay to drops of ‘90s ‘classics’ like DJ Quicksilver’s ‘Bellissima’ to, well, LASERS, this was more than a worthy additional feather to Le Galaxie’s ever-expanding bow.
Despite being a man down, LG made for vibrant cheerleaders, throwing shapes and pointing to the heavens as the music made its own ascent. This was essentially a ‘Here’s some of our favourites, hope you like ‘em’ megamix. And what joyous sounds they are. ‘Rhythm Is A Dancer’ proved bulletproof. A MayKay-assisted run of ‘Set You Free’ shone brighter than those aforementioned pyrotechnics. As for winding down with Beastie Boys’ ‘Sabotage’? Inspired. They’re available for parties. Probably.
