Dublin musician Sorcha Richardson also said the pair have written songs together.
UK pop artist Ellie Goulding has covered Dublin singer-songwriter Sorcha Richardson's single 'Shark Eyes', with the Irish indie sensation revealing that the pair have also written together.
'Shark Eyes' marked the second single from Richardson's independent chart-topping sophomore album Smiling Like An Idiot, which was released on September 23rd 2022.
Back when the track was released, the Dubliner said the track was about "...being totally infatuated with someone who you know isn’t as interested in you as you are in them":
"It’s about following your darker and more destructive impulses and allowing yourself to be taken for a bit of a ride, partly out of boredom and curiosity, but also partly out of a lingering hope that maybe this time it will end differently. I think I wrote it as a way of admitting to myself that that relationship would never be anything more than it already was, but I wanted it to still have the sweetness of a love song. Sometimes there’s a real lightness and relief in coming to that realisation about someone and knowing and accepting the limits of your relationship with them."
The video saw a cameo from Irish comic Michael Fry.

Yesterday, Sorcha dropped the surprise bomb that BRIT Award winner Ellie Goulding had asked to cover the track.
"Still can’t quite get my head around the fact that one day last summer I was on a train to West Kerry and checked my phone to see a DM from Ellie Goulding to say she heard Shark Eyes, loved the song, and wanted to do a cover of it," Sorcha Richardson recalls.
"I pretty much kept this a secret out of fear that if I told anyone it wouldn’t come true. Low and behold Ellie’s word is gold and her cover of Shark Eyes is out on Youtube today and it sounds so so good. I used to listen to Lights on repeat walking around New York when I was trying to pick up the courage to go sing my songs at open mics so this is a pretty magic full circle moment. Got to write some new stuff together recently too which was a dream. And all of this almost a year to the day that Shark Eyes came out."
"Fell in love with this Sorcha Richardson's song Shark Eyes so asked if I could sing a cover of it," Ellie Goulding adds. "Thankfully she said yes and we wrote together too."
