Elliot Minor
English outfit fuse rock and classical, with less than impressive results - think McFly meets Phil Coulter
Some of the best music in the world develops when two disparate genres are put together. But for every genre-bending new paradigm that emerges from such experimentation there are numerous grotesque Frankenstein’s monsters that need to be put out of their misery.
Techno drumbeats behind electro versions of ‘The Fields of Athenry’, for example. Now that was a true bastard of an idea. Elliot Minor haven’t even managed to create something that bad. Their self-titled debut is too boring to be crap. These ‘classically’ trained haircuts have managed to take two genres with tendencies towards mediocrity and complacency – classical music and rock, and fused them to make the Horlicks of rock/classical fusion. This album reminds me of slippers. Imagine if you will, what would happen if McFly collaborated with Phil Coulter and James Galway. Yes, now you’ve got it. Yawnworthy, isn’t it? Now imagine that but boringer. No. More boring still. This is so boring I’m too bored to give it less than two out of five.
Key Track: ‘The Broken Minor'
