John wrote the music for the new The Devil Wears Prada musical, but is unable to see the show physically
At a gala performance of The Devil Wears Prada Musical, Elton John shared with fans that due to his eyesight problems, he has been unable to see his own musical.
Onstage at the gala he said,“I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews because, as you know, I have lost my eyesight. So it’s hard for me to see it. But I love to hear it and boy it sounded good tonight.”
His eyesight deterioration was caused by a severe eye infection he contracted in July. It left him blind in his right eye and limited vision in his left.
John also reported that his eyesight in his right eye was delaying the process of developing his new album with his longtime collaborator, Bernie Taupin.

Earlier this month he released a track with Brandi Carlile entitled 'Never Too Late', inspired by the trajectory of Elton's career.
On social media, Elton said, “I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye. I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks.”
The Devil Wears Prada musical has just made its debut in London, and the gala performance was to raise funds for the Elton John Aids Foundation.
