As the old saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and this fortnight’s winning streak on the singles page is bought to a predictably crushing terminus by Placebo’s unwelcome return to the fold. Sadly, not even the presence of DJ Shadow collaborator Jim Abbiss at the mixing desk can save this dreary electro-rawk plodder. Even eight years ago, Brian Molko’s sexually ambiguous hobbit schtick was like a Dr. Who enthusiast’s idea of futurism, and precious little has changed in the interim.
