The musician and socialist activist posted his performance to Instagram yesterday.
Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin has released a performance of his song ‘The Statement’, condemning the Irish government’s inaction as the genocide in Gaza continues.
The lyrics of the track, which was posted to Instagram yesterday, go as follows: “Well Simon Harris, Micheál Martin and bould Eamon Ryan / Met to talk of all the death in Palestine, oh / Something must be done, boys, something must be done / We must put out a statement saying something must be done / Well Micheál he was first to speak / he said they’ve crossed the line for these are surely war crimes in the news.”
The song continues on to criticise the passage of US warplanes through Shannon airport, saying: “but say no word of ammunition passing through our skies / for Uncle Sam won’t thank us if we do / oh but something must be done boys / for they have crossed the line / just put in the statement now that they have crossed the line. / well Simon he’d been o’er to meet with genocidal Joe / The man who arms the Zionists to the teeth / not a word to say of weapons / but the whole world must do more.”
Finally, the musician called out the hypocrisy of Irish leaders, writing: “Well I’m sick of watching Micheál / How he slithers and he squirms / Sick of Simon saying Gaza makes him cry / I’m sick of seeing Eamon how he snivels as kids burn / I’m sick of watching all these cowards lie / Oh well nothing will be done if we sit and wait for these who wring their hands for all the cameras as we bleed.”

Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin – an award-winning singer and musician, as well as a prominent socialist activist – has long been a vocal supporter of the Palestinian cause.
Just yesterday, Ó Ceannabháin responded to a statement from Micheál Martin on X, which condemned the offensive by the Israeli Defence Forces in Northern Gaza. “Mícheál Martin, Simon Harris, Eamon Ryan,” the musician wrote. “The masters of churning out meaningless statements. Sanction Israel. Get US troops out of Shannon. Prosecute the companies that fly weapons through our skies. You are facilitating these horrors.”

Earlier this year, he also released the single ‘Siren Spring’, touching on the housing crisis, Gaza, and Irish politicians' decision to travel to Washington D.C. this St Patrick's Day.
In addition, he was one of several political activists facing charges for their protests and direct actions in support of Palestine. Proceeds from the track went towards these activists' legal fees.
