The Choice Prize nominee "passed away peacefully in his sleep" on the morning of August 11.
Eoin French, known professionally as Talos, has passed away aged 37.
The Cork musician grew up on the North side of the city, before studying architecture in University College Cork.
French's stage name is a reference to the mythical Talos, a giant automaton made of bronze that protected Crete.
Under the moniker, the artist achieved many major musical career milestones including three albums; Wild Alee, Far Out Dust and Dear Chaos, which was released in October 2022.
Talos was nominated for a Choice Music Prize in 2013 for his debut LP Wild Alee.

In his most recent Hot Press interview, French spoke of his love of music and gave advice to emerging musicians saying: "I never really want to sound like I’m pontificating, but finding what you love is a bonus. Like if everything disappears in the morning and you’re just left with a keyboard or a guitar would you still play it? If the answer is yes, then it doesn’t really matter what happens around it. What you’re going to get from it is growth, and probably a deep, more intricate understanding of yourself. Then you’ll be able to better who you are".
Sharing the news on social media, the artist's official account read: "It is with great sadness that we let you know that our friend Eoin French, known to many the world over as Talos, has passed away after a short illness. Eoin passed peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Sunday Aug 11 2024 in his native Cork, surrounded by his loved ones"
The statement, which was signed off by 'Team Talos" concluded saying: "A beautiful soul, a true artist, a son, a husband, a father, and a friend. We are devastated by his passing. As was his wish, there will be new music from Talos to share with you all in the future".
