Tickets for the Everclear frontman's Dublin gig go on sale this Friday.
Art Alexakis, best known as the singer, guitarist and primary songwriter behind the iconic alt-rock outfit Everclear, has announced an upcoming solo tour, including a stop at Dublin's The Sound House on October 20.
As well as plenty of Everclear hits and fan favourites, the tour is set to feature song from Alexakis' highly anticipated solo album, Sun Songs, out on October 11 via The End Records.
“For the most part, it’s an acoustic singer-songwriter type of album,” Alexakis revealed in a statement about the album. “It’s not about making another Everclear record; it’s about doing something that’s just me. I’m pushing my ability and pushing the envelope and having fun at the same time. I’ve always wanted to do something like this.”
Formed by Alexakis in Portland, Oregon, in 1992, Everclear has enjoyed a lengthy career, spanning nine original studio releases and thousands of shows and accolades, including a 1998 Grammy nomination for So Much For The Afterglow. The band remains active today, most recently issuing Black is the New Black in 2015.
“Every album that has different players on it sounds different, as it should," Alexakis says. "I’ve always wanted that with Everclear: to be an amorphous thing that can change and become different things. I’ve never wanted to make the same album twice. That’s why I’m excited about my solo material, because it doesn’t sound like any Everclear record. Not even close.”

Earlier this year, Alexakis revealed that he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis three years ago, following a car accident.
Tickets for his Sound House gig are €16 (incl. booking fee), and go on sale this Friday at 10am.
