Shawn Colvin: “Every Little Thing He Does Is Magic” (Columbia)

Many years ago I gave the thumbs up to Shawn Colvin’s first single ‘Steady On’ before the album of the same name won a Grammy. Just because she has, for the time being, forfeited performing heart-rending songs of emotional breakdown and love bust-ups doesn’t mean that I’m now about to do a typically critical u-turn. On this old Sting tune, Colvin appropriately enough celebrates amour-istic enthral but you might be better encouraged to purchase this disc for the warmth of Colvin’s live version of Steve Earle’s ‘Restless Heart’.
