An art-rock band for lovers of Lou Reed, Bowie, The Divine Comedy and The Beatles, Five Grand Stereo have shared their new album with us ahead of its Irish release date on January 26.
An incredibly ambitious rock-opera concept album, Sex and Money tells the story of a jilted, neurotic lover's attempts to recapture the heart of a pop singer as she navigates her way through a seedy business. Four-part harmonies, dueling guitars, raspy sax and above all, soaring melodies abound...
"The idea behind Five Grand Stereo", says lead songwriter Chris Singleton, "is to take a 1970s band, shove them in a time machine, deposit them in the present day and ask them to make a record about the world they find themselves in."
Five Grand Stereo are a London-based band with a strong Irish contingent and members from across Europe. They are: Dubliner Chris Singleton (vocals, guitar, piano); Limerick singer Jane Fraser (vocals); Greek Cypriot Stelios Kalisperides (guitars); Englishman Michael Kirkland (sax, synthsand BVs); Spaniard / Englishman Zane Maertens (bass) and Welshman Ben Woollacott (drums).
