Hot Press can reveal that the brand new film celebrating the life and work of Dublin singer Mic Christopher, Heyday: The Mic Christopher Story, will make its Irish TV premiere on TG4 over Christmas.

Named after the well-known anthemic song by Christopher, the picture will also play at the IFI on Saturday at a special screening to coincide with the twentieth anniversary of his death on November 29 2001. It will then be available to rent from IFI @ Home for five days afterwards.

Mic Christopher sadly passed away at the age of just 32 whilst while recording his debut album Skylarkin'. It was posthumously finished and released by friends and family of the singer to wide acclaim the following year.

The film will feature contributions from the likes of Sharon Horgan, Glen Hansard, Mike Scott, Lisa Hannigan, Bronagh Gallagher, Rónán O Snodaigh, Colm Mac Con Iomaire, as well as others close to the artist. It's described in a press release as "the story of a man whose life and love for it changed Irish music forever."

Speaking to Hot Press back in 2019 about why he wanted to make the film, writer Níall Carver said that "There's a possibility, with certain people who achieve a level of fame and then pass on, that time will pass them by and further generations won't get to experience and share the music they made.

It seemed glaringly obvious to me that Mic was one of those musicians. There was a danger of things slipping through the cracks of time, so the aim was to create a legacy film, a document of this great Irish talent, for the people who loved him and also for the people who hadn't yet heard of him."

Heyday: The Mic Christopher Story comes to television screens on TG4 this Christmas.
