The singer-songwriter announces her upcoming LP Goodbye Small Head and releases its lead single, 'Grand Mal.'
American musician Ezra Furman has announced that her tenth studio album, Goodbye Small Head, will launch on May 16.
“Though I wrote parts of it earlier, I think the making of this album really began on the morning of April 11 2023, when I woke suddenly ill, limped into the bathroom and lost consciousness,” said Furman. “At the hospital they gave me all the tests and told me that actually, I wasn’t sick, and I could go home now.”
“I stayed in bed for months, exhausted and in pain, no doctor offering any convincing explanation or cure,” she continued. “After a while I began haemorrhaging songs.”
Goodbye Small Head will feature twelve songs, with the lead single ‘Grand Mal’ releasing today. A music video for the track, directed by Eleanor Petry, was also released today on YouTube.
The new album's launch will be accompanied by a UK and US tour, however there are currently no planned Irish concerts.

Furman has been making and releasing music since 2006. She originally performed as part of the rock band Ezra Furman and the Harpoons. When the group broke up in 2011, she began recording and touring as a solo artist, backed by band The Visions - formerly The Boy-Friends.
Among her many studio albums, Furman also recorded the soundtrack for hit TV series Sex Education.
