Matley, former resident of Liam Healy Road in Cork, had been battling cancer after discovering a lump in his underarm in 2016, following which he was diagnosed with stage three malignant melanoma. In recent times, he had been planning to perform a skydive - to raise money for the hospital where he received his treatment - on May 3. At time of writing, he had raised almost €6,000 for the hospital, The Royal Marsden in London, on a JustGiving page.
The Overtones were due to perform as part of their summer tour, in various venues across the UK. The band were also due to perform at Cork City Hall on June 12 as part of a charity concert in aid of Down Syndrome Centre.
