Constance Keane combines reflective electronics, acoustic samples, and haunting vocals with organic visuals in her music project Fears.
Hot Press Hot for 2021 act Fears has released details of her highly anticipated upcoming album Oíche, alongside her second single 'vines'.
The eagerly-awaited debut album is due for release Friday, May 7, 2021.
Keane's ethereal voice has an innate power to transport those who hear it, and she expertly blurs the boundaries between music and visual art. Her minimalist approach centres on emotive subjects: her recent single ‘tonnta’ is about her grandmother’s battle with dementia.
'vines' follows a turbulent journey with mental health, feeling lost at sea following trauma.
“This track was written before a breakdown," Fears wrote about the track's origins.

"It chronicles a stage where one blames themselves and sees that it is only them that is the problem in a situation. Listening back, I hear myself drowning in confusion as to why I can’t control my feelings and want to shed those thought patterns.”
Fears first single ‘tonnta’ received staggering support at radio at home and abroad. The track was written, recorded, and produced by Fears, and marked the first single from TULLE, a new label founded by Constance Keane and Emily Kendrick, run by women and non-binary people, supporting underrepresented voices in music.
Both singles are supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sports and Media.
The video for ‘vines’ continues on from where ‘tonnta’ left us. The visual documents the journey from being washed away by the weight of blame, trauma, and rumination, to a Megalithic portal tomb - Ballybrack Dolmen, built circa 2500 BC, arriving at sunrise.
"This place holds particular significance to me as somewhere to offload weight, as my family and I go to this dolmen each Winter Solstice, write down something we want to let go of from the previous year, and burn it," Fears explains about the clip.
"As the sun rises, the longest night of the year ends, and you look forward to longer days and a fresh perspective. The rock I am carrying is granite, the main type of rock occurring in the Dublin and Wicklow Mountains, representing grief held in the land and physical space.”
Fears is yet another must-know artist with an endlessly fascinating career on the way.
