She's the queen of sharp writing, but what's the story behind her wondorous prose?
Having combined an MA in Journalism with working in MTV's UK press department, Sweeney landed a full-time job in the mid-90s with BMG Publishing in London. On leaving she became a freelance music supervisor for films and her credits include Film Four's My Brother Tom and One For The Road and the Irish film Goldfish Memory. She also commissioned the score for Bodysong from Jonny Greewood of Radiohead.
Moving home to Dublin, Tanya became an A&R scout for Warners Ireland, and began to write for Hot Press. She also set up her own Velvet Elvis Management company in 2003, which looked after the likes of Skyjack, Redtwelve, Skindive and Uptown Racquet Club. Now concentrating largely on her writing, Tanya is a regular contributor to Hot Press, Sunday Tribune, Evening Herald and Irish Tatler. She is occupied these days as music supervisor on 30th Century Man, a music documentary on Scott Walker with executive producer David Bowie.
Tanya is on the board of FMC, who run the Hard Working Class Heroes festival.
Her three favourite pieces of work? They're as follows...
