Galway singer/songwriter Eoghan Burke has spent the past two years playing support to the likes of Dick Gaughan, Sean Tyrrell and Kila. For his debut album though, he has enlisted producer Ross Rooney to add a bit of electronica to his usual acoustic sound. The tootling theremin-like noises on 'Broken Sunshine' and 'Everyday Thoughts' integrate nicely into the mix, but this writer's preference is for tracks like 'Sometimes When She Moves' and 'This Year's War', whose spare arrangements feaure Burke's guitar and vocal sans embellishment. The quiet, meditative 'Things Remind Me Of You' is also particularly effective, with Nicola Williams joining in on unison backing vocals, as is the waltz-time 'Maria Come Close', a dreamlike tale of "howling witches and banshees".
