The nominations for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards have been released in what is a big win for female artists. Taylor Swift has the most nods for this with eight, followed by SZA with six.
Six of the seven people nominated for Video of the Year are women, including the likes of Doja Cat, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo, SZA, Miley Cyrus and the aforementioned Swift.
The seventh and final nomination is for Sam Smith & Petras’ ‘Unholy’, which made the duo the first openly non-binary and openly transgender solo artists to have a Billboard No.1 hit.

For the first time since the VMAs introduced the artist of the year award, all the nominees are female artists, with Beyoncé, Doja Cat, Karol G, Minaj, Shakira and Swift all nominated.
Taylor Swift’s ‘Anti-Hero’ has earned her a whopping seven nominations-video of the year, song of the year, best direction, best cinematography, best direction, best pop, best editing, and best visual effects.
In addition to her nod for artist of the year, Swift is up for seven awards for her megahit ‘Anti-Hero’– video of the year, song of the year, best pop, best cinematography, best visual effects, and best editing.
She is also up for best direction for the video to the track, as is Kendrick Lamar for his co-direction role on ‘Count Me Out’ alongside Dave Free.
Despite her second-best six nominations, SZA wasn’t given the nod for artist of the year.
