Potential capacity increases and a "very special" headline act were some of the suggestions alluded to by organisers ahead of next year's festival in Stradbally
The 20th Anniversary of Electric Picnic drew to a close yesterday, with Kylie Minogue rounding off the main stage festivities.
Ahead of the Australian’s showpiece set, Festival Republic Managing Director Melvin Benn spoke to the press, revealing his thoughts on this year’s Electric Picnic as well as future plans, acknowledging the possibility for an expansion of capacity next year.
“I'll certainly talk to the council about whether there's room for a bit more if there's demand, I think there will be demand,” he said. “But for the moment, I'm happy with where we are in that sense of it. I think the people that are here will have enjoyed it. I doubt very many people will be saying they're not going to enjoy it, and not many people, won't want to be back next year. So I think the demand will be there."
He added that there are no plans for Electric Picnic to take a Glastonbury-style fallow year, which organisers of the English festival say is necessary for allowing the ground to recover.
"Apart from Covid we haven't had a fallow year and we don't intend to,” said Benn. “I think the fans would go bananas."
Benn told reporters that he’s made some unofficial agreements with acts for Electric Picnic 2025, citing with one "very special” act who the he has a “long relationship” with.

Reflecting upon the weekend, he revealed some of his own highlights, singling out local Laois acts the Timahoe male Choir and Just Alice. The MD also shared his view Belfast rap trio Kneecap’s packed gig at the Electric Arena on Saturday.
"Their trajectory is definitely a good one at the moment,” Benn noted. "One of the highlights of the weekend, and I don't think anybody would have seen that 18 months ago, it has actually been remarkable. I'm sure at some point we'll see them on a main stage here."
Tickets for Electric Picnic 2025 will go on sale at 9am Wednesday August 21. The Loyalty Scheme and General Admission tickets will be available along with Family Camping, Campervan and Caravan tickets.
