Following critically-lauded debut Oíche, Fears – aka M(h)aol’s Constance Keane – returns with her stunning offering affinity and answers some quick fire questions
Where are you now and what are you doing?
In my flat in north east London with my trusty electric blanket warming my legs. I don’t sleep with it on, calm down.
First record to send a shiver up your spine?
I still remember where I was when I heard The XX’s debut album for the first time.
First gig you attended?

Incubus in the National Stadium when I was… 14, I think. Nu-metal is life.
First gig you played?
My first Fears gig on my own was in a studio space in Belfast, and I felt sick for a week beforehand at the idea of being on a stage alone.
Most memorable gig?
Blue Dot festival in Manchester was really really special.

What has been the most ‘pinch me’ moment of your career so far?
Playing three shows with Shellac in Ireland as M(h)aol. Teenage me could never.
Most embarrassing thing you’ve done either drunk or sober?
I never did the whole underage drinking thing (I was very popular) and I’m not an overly big drinker now. But I do have a history of sending texts when I’m very tired that I wish I could put down to being drunk. Now I just write songs instead, probably for the best.
What shite jobs have you had in the past?
I worked as a waitress, and worked at a kayaking company even though I am quite remarkably bad at kayaking, but they were both more bizarre than shite.
Last record you bought, borrowed, or blagged?

I bought Dogsbody by Model/Actriz at their show in Fabric.
Who’d be in your dream band line-up?
Sexiest musician on the planet?
Vince Staples, Daniel Kessler, or Enya.
What song would you have played at your funeral?
Anything by Enya.
