Listen to 'Spontaneous' and 'Takashi' the two newest offerings from Flying Lotus' fifth record Flamagra.
DJ and electronic producer Flying Lotus has released two new singles from forthcoming album Flamagra. ‘Spontaneous’ and ‘Takashi’ follow up the David Lynch featuring ‘Fire Is Coming’ offering, perhaps, a clearer glimpse into the musical landscape of the new project. The former features Swedish electronic band Little Dragon, who co-produce and provide vocals on the track. The latter harkens back more so to Lotus’ previous album You’re Dead, shifting rapidly between increasingly hectic rhythms and sonic landscapes.
The two songs are tracks seven and eight on forthcoming album Flamagra, which features a slew of notable artists including, but not limited to, Anderson .Paak, Thundercat, George Clinton, Tierra Whack, Denzel Curry, Shabazz Palaces, Solange, and Toro y Moi, as well as two tracks dedicated to the late Mac Miller – ‘Find Your Own Way Home’ and ‘Thank U Malcom’ – who passed away due to an overdose in September of 2018.
Of the record, Lotus says “[he’d] been working on stuff for the past five years, but it was always all over the place.” It wasn’t until speaking with David Lynch, and the creation of their collaborative track that the concept for the record truly came to be, “a lingering concept about fire, an eternal flame sitting on a hill, some people love it, some people hate it. Some people would go on dates there and some people would burn love letters in the fire.”
