Unafraid to speak on behalf of her generation, Tyrone singer-songwriter Bird explores the damaging effects of societal pressures in this comforting letter.
Northern Ireland's Lauren Bird first began sharing her music at open mic nights around Belfast back in late 2013, with her music teacher's encouragement.
After her self-titled debut EP scored the number one spot on the acoustic Bandcamp chart, Bird went on to win Chordblossom's Kickstart 2015.
Since then, the charm, personal style of storytelling and folk sweetness of the musician has allowed her to connect with a burgeoning grassroots audience. Bird released her debut album, The Inbetween, in 2017 after a fundraising campaign and shared folk-pop single 'Millennials' last year.
Applauded for her thought-provoking lyricism and topical subject matter, Lauren has now released the second track from her forthcoming EP, titled 'Keep Trying'.
"'Keep Trying' is a song I wrote about my frustrations with societal norms and beauty standards. I thought a lot about how I felt as a teenager growing up and how uncomfortable I felt in my own skin. Sending love to those who still struggle with looking in the mirror.”
Addressing the unrealistic and unattainable standards placed upon many, "You're smothered by all the things that are impossible to be at once", Bird sings. "Speak your truth, everyone in this room is here for you," she adds, while the restrained, pulsating energy of the song highlights nostalgic elements.
