Fontaines D.C. have released a new single, 'It's Amazing To Be Young,' alongside a music video. They have also announced a limited-edition 7'' vinyl, to be released on April 18 featuring new b-side 'Before You I Just Forget.'

The single, which had been teased on Instagram over the last couple days, is an ode to youth and innocence. Over an upbeat instrumental with acoustic and electric guitars, bass, and drums, lead singer Grian Chatten sings: "It's the cast / That brings you down / But it's amazing / To be young."

The music video was directed by BAFTA-nominated filmmaker and screenwriter Luna Carmoon. The video is Carmoon's third production for Fontaines D.C., and it follows Spider and Martin – two characters from the band's previous music videos – as they find themselves in a dreamlike love story.

Conor Deegan III, the band's bassist, said the song was "written in the presence" of guitarist Carlos O'Connell's newborn child. "It sounded more like a lullaby or a music box then, but with the same lyric - 'it’s amazing to be young,'" said Deegan.

"The feeling of hope a child can give is profound and moving, especially for young men like us," added the bassist. "It’s a feeling that fights against the cynicism that can often overtake us in the modern world. So we wanted to declare which side we were on - it really is amazing to be young."

Talking about directing the music video, Carmoon said: "I feel like we’re living in this weird time where romantic love is being pushed to the side, and sex and love is unvirtuous and no longer what people want to see. I don’t believe that at all. I love that these two people have fallen in love with themselves, and I wanted to see them fall in love with each other."

The release of 'It’s Amazing To Be Young' follows a successful year for the Dublin band, as their fourth album, 2024's ROMANCE, certified platinum in Ireland, has made the top of several year-end 'Best Albums' lists, including Hot Press'. It also earned the band an Album Award at the Rolling Stone UK Awards, as well as nominations for two Grammys and a Choice Music Prize, among others.

Fontaines D.C. will play in Ireland on August 1, at Waterford's All Together Now festival, as part of their 2025 world tour. For more information about their upcoming show you can click here.
